DIRECTV NOW is Asking For Public Testers For Their New Streaming Player

This week DIRECTV NOW once again email subscribers asking for beta testers for their new Android TV-powered streaming player.

This new device is likely to be used for both DIRECTV NOW and a new DIRECTV streaming version AT&T announced last year. The device is an Android TV-powered streaming player called Osprey. (AT&T is very likely to change the name before release.) It is very likely this will be the set-top box for the reported DIRECTV streaming version. According to reports AT&T wants to offer a streaming version of DIRECTV that will offer the same contracts and channels but without the dish on your house. (Removing the need to send a tech to your house or pay for an expensive satellite in space.) For now, they are likely using DIRECTV NOW to test it and will likely also offer it as an option for DIRECTV NOW customers.

In the email sent to subscribers, AT&T says “We built a streaming device to give you an even better experience. And we’d like you to be a beta tester so you can help us make sure we do just that.”

Here is how to signup for the beta:

  1. Log in here to sign up
Enter your information to get on the list. Remember, spots are limited. But if you’re selected, we’ll send you a box and a quick-start guide in the next couple of weeks. The device will be yours to keep.*
  2. Keep watching
Give your new streaming device a test watch. Make sure to keep your DIRECTV NOW account active if you want to continue as a beta tester through the test period—about 6 months.
    Sound off
  3. If you’re selected, we’ll be sending you an invite for the user forum where you can tell us what you think. Plus, we also have a short online survey that we’ll be sending out about once a month throughout the test period.

If you missed out on the first request for testers check your email to see if you have one this time.

Legal details:

*The device is provided on an “as is” basis and does not come with a warranty. While we are under no obligation to repair or replace the device if it becomes inoperative during the beta period, we may, at our own discretion, replace a defective device while supplies last.
