DIRECTV NOW is Now The Cheapest Way to Get Showtime

It looks like AT&T is continuing their push to make DIRECTV NOW the cheapest way to get premium channels. Overnight DIRECTV NOW announced the pricing for their new SHowtime add-on at just $8 a month on their site. That makes DIRECTV NOW the cheapest way to get Showtime by about a $1 vs Hulu and Amazon. That also makes DIRECTV NOW $2 cheaper than Sling TV.

Included with the $8 a month subscription is Showtime Easter and Showtime on Demand. You won’t get a live feed of every Showtime channel but they just reair what is available in the Showtime On Demand area. (At the time of this posting, we are unsure if you get access to the Showtime apps with your DIRECTV NOW login.)

Update: Yes DIRECTV NOW subscribers will get access to the Showtime app at some future date.

DIRECTV NOW has slowly been adding CBS owned and operated stations and just yesterday they added a few more CBS locals. Before yesterday though none of the other networks promised like POP and CBS Sports have appeared on DIRECTV NOW.

We have reached out to DIRECTV NOW for comment and will update this story when we learn more.

Looks like it doesn’t include Showtime anytime app support. At least the website doesn’t mention it on the sign-up page like it does for HBO and Cinemax.

Careful there are two Showtime apps as with HBO. DTVN uses HBO Go. Try the regular Showtime app.

      • JWort93 September 18, 2017 at 7:56 am #

The regular showtime app is only for their direct-purchase subscription. Showtime Anytime is the app the supports logins from other providers that allow it.

Have you tried the regular Showtime app though? It doesn’t work or you just read somewhere that it doesn’t work? Sometimes that is fake news and when you try it it works. So does it work?

          • JWort93 September 18, 2017 at 8:17 am #

I tried it. It clearly states on the login screen if you are looking to sign in with a provider, download the showtime anytime app instead.

Ok. Thanks for verifying that for the readers.

“DIRECTV NOW subscribers can choose to add Showtime® for only $8 more a month, the lowest monthly rate from any streaming provider. Subscribers can also access it either through the DIRECTV NOW app, Showtime Anytime app or online at ShowtimeAnytime.com.”

Login with DTVN? Probably not. Knowing DTVN that will come much later. No live stream for $8? Showtime is more expensive than HBO or Cinemax? Ha ha.

    • JWort93 September 18, 2017 at 7:52 am #

It includes the live stream for $8. What the author is saying is it doesn’t have every single one of the showtime live channels. For example when you subscribe to it through cable, it includes like 10 different genre specific live showtime channels. This does not, but all the same content is available on demand.

      • Evan September 18, 2017 at 7:55 am #

Why say it that way? Duh. HBO and Cinemax are the same way. Even DTVN’s premium package lacks wvery Stars channel. This is just the reality of streaming. That is why there are app libraries of on demand content. All thise channels just air old content anyway.

Interesting, good find. It doesn’t seem to be live yet though. They aren’t listed as a provider in the app.

      • Evan September 18, 2017 at 9:59 am #

Yes and they are getting screwed. $3 more than HBO or Cinemax is. Odd too as it is not as popular as HBO.

        • mnsportsgeek September 18, 2017 at 10:09 am #

          You make no sense.

          • Evan September 18, 2017 at 10:10 am #

$8 for Showtime is much more than $5 for HBO. How are you not getting basic math?

          • JWort93 September 18, 2017 at 10:31 am #

The fact you are not considering is that HBO and Cinemax are only priced so cheap, because AT&T will soon own Time Warner, HBO and Cinemax’s parent company, so they decided to offer the channels for a great deal, because they will soon own the content themselves. AT&T does not own Starz or Showtime, so they can’t offer as good of a price. Either way, they are still cheaper than any other provider offers them for.

            Thank you for the explanation.

I’ve been wondering how DTVN has been charging only five bucks a month for HBO and Cinemax. Appreciate the info. Anyhow, to bad here on PS Vue those kind of channels are essentially cable like prices.

What does Showtime Easter air?? Is it all bunny movies?? ????

  4. MacHead84 September 18, 2017 at 8:23 am #

Eventually AT&T will claim these Bolt-On channels are a “change” to your account and will strip your promo-Go Big pricing, not today, not tomorrow, but they will. So I’d rather pay an extra 2 bucks for the random month I get it straight from the Showtime App and make no changes to my DTVN account.

  5. Nick Costides September 18, 2017 at 8:48 am #

I would prefer getting this from AT&T, but without Showtime Anytime app support, and with only one live I don’t see this as a great deal. I use the TV app on the Apple TV so having those app supports is important. Starz on DirecTVnow also does not support the app so I get it through itunes.

Yup, I have DirecTV’s 100+ channels package in L.A. Have regular CBS local affiliate some time already, but still no CBS Sports or even the CW as yet.

  7. mnsportsgeek September 18, 2017 at 9:14 am #

When the initial announcement of CBS, CW, POP, and ShowTime was made, it was mentioned that ShowTime Anytime would be available. Chill out.

How can you say that when DirectNow only came out this year? That’s like saying “as a Barnes & Noble customer for over 15 years, the Nook is the best there is. PERIOD.”
