Watching tv and using remote control

Watching tv and using remote controlToday comScore released a new look at the growth of live TV streaming services like Sling TV, Hulu, Philo, YouTube TV, and more. This study looked at the growth of live TV streaming and how people used it.

According to comScore, the number of Americans subscribing to a live TV streaming service jumped 58% in just one year. Not only are there more people subscribing but the number of hours spent viewing a live TV streaming service jumped 53%.

The other interesting point in this study was the fact that according to comScore “almost all” live TV streaming happens on streaming boxes and streaming stick. Very little of DIRECTV NOW, Sling TV, Hulu’s live TV service, etc happens on phones and tablets.

When looking at the live TV subscriber by age, it shows that 33% of American households 35-44 subscribe to a live TV streaming service like Sling TV. That is up from 29% in April of 2017. That makes 35 to 44-year-olds the most likely to subscribe to a live TV streaming service.

This report puts a lot of the myths of cord cutting to rest. Well, Millennials may love streaming it seems so does Gen Xers. This report also puts to rest the idea that most streaming is moving to phones and tablets as according to comScore almost all live TV streaming happens on streaming players. The truth is cord cutting is still something not fully understood and attempts to blame it on one age group is likely blinding cable companies to the real size of cord cutting.
