Group of young people watching soccer matchWorried about DIRECTV NOW crashing during the Super Bowl tonight? Well, it looks like DIRECTV NOW is taking steps now to handle the load.

Yesterday DIRECTV NOW started to email subscribers letting them know that there will be a second NBC stream available in the DIRECTV NOW guide. This second stream will also be airing the Super Bowl in an effort to spread out the load across two streams in an effort to handle the demand tonight. It does not matter which NBC feed you pick as both will have NBC’s coverage of the super bowl.

One thing to remember though DIRECTV NOW does not have rights to stream the Super Bowl on smartphones. Looks like you will need the Yahoo Sports app to watch the game on your phone. (Or maybe the NBC Sports app. Right now there is a little confusion over if NBC has mobile rights for tonight’s game.)

Here is what the email from DIRECTV NOW says about tonight’s game.

There will be a second stream available in your DIRECTV NOW program guide. You can switch to the second stream so you won’t miss a single play.

Save your smartphone for post-game selfies – it won’t let you stream this event.
