Disney+ Could be Getting More ABC Content

Next month, Disney+ is set to get the complete series of Once Upon a Time. Seasons 1-7 of the ABC show are leaving Netflix and making the House of Mouse its official home, which leads us to speculate if Disney+ will be adding more ABC content to its library in the coming months.

It makes sense that the streamer would have access to content churned out by Disney-owned ABC, but up until now, the network’s offerings have been on various platforms like Netflix and Hulu. But Once Upon a Time jumping the Netflix ship and sailing into Disney’s open arms leads us to believe it won’t be the last product of ABC to land at the Wonderful World of Disney.

Adding ABC content opens up a whole new library of shows for Disney+ which could come at a much needed time when the global pandemic has disrupted production and postponed new releases. ABC has more than enough shows stashed away that Disney could pull the licensing rights from other streamers to fill the gaps.

This new addition of Once Upon a Time means Disney+ could potentially gain access to mega-hit series like Grey’s Anatomy, Modern Family, and even popular reality franchises like The Bachelor and American Idol (although many are already on the mostly Disney-owned Hulu, which seems to be a more likely fit). Or it could just mean that Once Upon a Time fit perfectly into the Disney character library since it features characters like Snow White, Captain Hook, Robin Hood, Elsa, Merida and more.

As you can tell, these are all just speculations at this point. But we’d love to hear your thoughts, do you think Disney+ is gearing up to add more ABC content? Comment and let us know.
