Josh Peck has been chosen as the lead in a Tuner & Hooch reboot, a 12 episode series for Disney+.
Peck will take the role of U.S Marshal Scott Turner in the reboot of the 1989 film. Tom Hanks originally played the character. Like the movie, the series will focus on the character of Scott Turner who finds himself with a new companion and partner in an unruly dog.
Josh Peck is known for his role on Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh, followed by his part in Grandfathered which he starred in opposite John Stamos. Peck has also appeared in several indie films including Silver Lake and Take the 10.
Matt Nix (Burn Notice) will serve as writer and executive producer for the hour long episodes. Nix has an overall deal with Disney-owned 20th Century Fox studio series.
Deadline points out that this is not the first time a reboot of the movie has been attempted. ABC saw a pilot of a series starring Thomas F. Wilson as Det. Scott Turner and Beasley the Dog reprising his role from the film. The series was not picked up.
As for the Disney+ series co-star, there’s no word yet on which pup will play the part of Hooch, or whether the part will be played by a real dog or created with CGI. A premiere date has not been announced yet.
