Disney+ Launches Star Today: What to Know About the New Disney+ Content Brand

Star, a new entertainment brand from Disney, launched on Disney+ Tuesday in select markets outside of the US. The brand is home to thousands of hours of movies and TV shows from Disney Television Studios, FX, 20th Century Studios, 20th Television, Touchstone, and more, along with local programming from each region.

“Disney+ has touched the lives of nearly a hundred million people around the globe by providing a home for exceptional storytelling from the beloved brands of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, and today’s launch of the Star-branded international general entertainment offering marks an exciting expansion for the service,” said Rebecca Campbell, Chairman, International Operations and Direct-to-Consumer, The Walt Disney Company. “With the addition of Star, we’re building even more value for consumers by adding an incredible array of high-quality movies and series for families, older teens, and adults, fueled by the acquisition of 21st Century Fox and our creative studios.”

Star is available for Disney+ subscribers in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and Singapore.

When Will Star Come to Other Areas?

The streaming service will continue its global rollout in Eastern Europe, South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong later in 2021.

What Can You Watch?

Star has its own brand title and page, alongside the five other brands represented on Disney+. The page includes general entertainment movies, television, documentaries, and more, along with Star-branded new exclusive originals and local productions being created for the service.

With Star, subscribers can watch all content from Disney+ including movies, shows, shorts, and originals from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, plus an additional 1000 unique titles under the new Star brand in the first year. Subscribers will also get exclusive originals from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and Star, along with local productions being created for the service under the Star brand geared towards a more mature audience.

So, There’s Content for Adults?

Yes. Star includes series and movies for adults like Family Guy, Prison Break, Grey’s Anatomy, Deadpool, Borat, and Sons of Anarchy.

With the launch of Star, Disney+ introduced more robust parental controls. Those controls will allow subscribers to set limits on access to specific profiles based on content ratings. Parents can also add a PIN to lock profiles with access to mature content.

How to Watch

Star can be streamed on the same platforms as Disney+, including iOS and Android, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Chromecast, PlayStation 4 and 5, and smart TVs from Samsung, LG, and Vizio.
