Excited Sports Fans Cheering at TV

Excited Sports Fans Cheering at TVOne of the dreams of cord cutting has been the idea that you could just pay for the channels you want in a la carte TV package. Now today at the Recode’s Code Media conference in Los Angeles, Disney’s Direct-To-Consumer Chairman Kevin Mayer said he is open to such an idea. According to Kevin Mayer Disney could “at some point” offer ESPN as an a la carte option.

Exactly how that would work is unknown and not likely to happen any time soon. Disney already has ESPN+ but they have worked very hard to make sure that ESPN+ is not a replacement for ESPN with a pay-TV service. Going a la carte would very likely upset many of their cable TV partners that are still extremely profitable.

For now, it seems that we are still a while off from offering ESPN and other channels direct to the consumers in an a la cate package, but it seems that the idea is at least out there at Disney.
