Family watching TV

Family watching TVToday, fuboTV released their Portrait of a Cord-Cutter report, with insights about their typical subscriber and cord cutting trends.

According to the data collected by fuboTV, the streaming service’s leading demographic is families with parents between the ages of 35-54 who are working professionals, with 2-3 children, most likely including a teenager. On average, fuboTV viewers watch over 103 hours of content each month. That’s a 135% year over year increase. Unsurprisingly, the highest viewing numbers are on Sundays and Saturdays. Most viewing happens during prime time.

What are people watching? Entertainment makes up 43% of fuboTV’s viewing hours, followed by sports with 33% and news with 24%.In the report, fuboTV also answered the question of what brings families to cord cutting and what a service needs to do to keep subscribers over time. Their research shows that there are three factors.

  • Diverse Content and Channel Offering: Including sports, news, and entertainment rather than only offering entertainment helps to retain subscribers. fuboTV subscribers watch over 20 channels each month, compared to just 12 with cable TV.
  • Options for Add-Ons: Over half of fuboTV subscribers purchase an add-on, with the Cloud DVR add-on topping the list of most popular extras.
  • Ability to Stream on Multiple Devices: From TVs to laptops to phones and tablets, families want to watch their content on multiple devices. Over 50% of fuboTV subscribers watch on mobile.

Cord cutting continues to grow as families look for alternatives to watching TV with a high cable bill. In 2020, fuboTV predicts that cord cutting will become more popular as subscribers find the value in a better user experience and more options.
