The reviews aren’t very good for this on Amazon.

I can only speak about my own experience with this device model of FireTV. I purchased mine (full price) back in Oct 2017, after experience my sister-in-law’s Amazon FireTV unit. It was the older and larger box size.

This model just feels cheap in so many ways and the HDMI dongle design reminds me of Google’s much cheaper round Chromecast unit.

Because of seeing HDMI cables fail for no reason, I don’t think that I like a permanent HDMI cable attached. I feel that if the HDMI fails for whatever reason, then the unit is no longer good.

Mine tended to run warm/hot, so that could possibly lead to an early failure, unless the unit electronics are designed to work at hot temperatures.

The remote and main unit will unexpectedly stop talking to each other for whatever reason, but the main unit continues to showthat it’s paied. I’ve followed all sorts of instructions on the web (seems there are a lot of issues related to the remote and unit), but not much seemed to work for me, except using my Amazon phone app to talk to the unit to unpair the remote, do a battery pull from the remote, unplug the power from the unit, wait anywhere from an hour to 4 hours and re-install the batteries and plugin the power to the unit, and then attempt to re-pair the remote to the main unit again. This can work from anywhere from an hour to a month before it happens again. If you are comfortable with just using your Amazon phone app remote, then you should be fine, but I personally like a remote in most instances.

I feel the Amazon FireTV is a bit overpriced, even at this sale price, especially since some buyers (Amazon reviewers) seem to be having various issues with it. However, there are some lucky folks that haven’t had a problem yet. With mine, I’ve had constant issues that are quickly turning me away from it and just using my Roku Premier. I also noticed that Amazon has kept pumping out OS updates to my unit since I purchased it.

Anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon didn’t come out with another version of FireTV some point soon. Whether it looks exactly the same, or has a different designed box, it’s hard to say. 🙂

With no SD, full size USB, or Ethernet connectors, that’s all it’s worth. It should be the regular price. Hope version 4 goes back to old design.

I have this unit, and those lack of features were some of my disappointments too. I went into a little more detail within a reply to another person here, and I actually feel after my experience, the price should be even lower. LOL!
