According to multiple sources Facebook is close to announcing a new set of news programs for their new streaming service. According to the reports both Fox News and CNN will be offering news programs on Facebook and Facebook apps.

Some reports say that Facebook is also in talks with other newsgroups in what may be a sign of Facebook launching a news section that will be full of curated programs from services Facebook trusts. Some of these other groups are reported to be BuzzFeed, NowThis, The Wall Street Journal, and more.

Recently Facebook has been under pressure to crack down on misinformation. An official news area could be one more step in attempts by Facebook to crack down on fake news. Facebook has said they wanted to promote “high-quality news” and this deal could be one more step in this plan.

Both CNN and Fox News have declined to comment on these reports. Facebook has also reportedly declined to comment on the deal.

Facebook has recently been paying big for programming. With some publishers getting between $1 million and $3 million for one-year contracts to post their content on Facebook. For now, we will have to see if they have the money to attract major news groups.
