5G has been a dream of cord cutters for years, and the idea of true competition coming to the home internet market is now looking like a reality.

In their effort to roll out 5G home internet later this year, AT&T has teamed up with FOX to test 4K streaming over 5G. During this test, FOX will stream two 4K HDR cameras over 5G.

“It’s part of our FOX Sports DNA to aggressively explore evolving technologies as part of our live sports production,” Michael Davies, FOX Sports SVP of field and technical operations, said in a statement. “This is exactly the kind of effort we consistently put into the leading edge of today’s technology, in preparation for what will become the industry standards of the future.”

Dish, Charter, AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and others have all announced plans to roll out 5G home internet. Dish and others have said that by the end of 2020 they will have half of the United States covered with 5G home internet.

Verizon announced that they plan to start rolling out 5G internet in 2018, and Charter is testing 5G in six US markets right now.
