Recently, we shared how Philo can give you the content you’re missing from your YouTube and Playstation Vue subscriptions. This week, we’re back at it and filling you in on how Philo can supplement the content you’ll get with Hulu and Sling. Here’s how a $16-20 Philo subscription can complete your streaming content setup.

Hulu and Sling

Hulu has been a staple for cord cutters since the company was founded in 2007. Sling is a much newer streaming service, but one of the most popular for watching live TV without a cable subscription. No single subscription service is perfect, and each of the plans offered from these services is missing a few channels that you might be looking for. Philo might be able to cover those missing channels.

Hulu + Philo

Hulu has two options for streaming content. The basic Hulu package starts at $7.99/month and allows users to stream content from the list of over 50 channels. Hulu with Live TV costs $39.99/month. With this package, you’ll have access to the same 50+ channels of streaming content, along with the option to watch many of the channels live. Live channels include sports, news, and entertainment.

When subscribing to the basic Hulu plan, you’ll have access to many of the same channels that you’d get with Philo. However, you won’t be able to watch those channels live. In addition to the live TV option, you’ll also have access to these additional channels with Philo:

  • AXS TV
  • Cheddar
  • DIY
  • FYI
  • GSN
  • MTV2
  • Nick Jr.
  • Teen Nick
  • Viceland

Hulu with Live TV gives you access to all of the streaming content available with a basic Hulu account. However, it doesn’t make the live streaming of all of those channels available. These are the additional live channels you’ll get when supplementing your Hulu with Live TV subscription with a Philo subscription:

  • AMC
  • Animal Planet
  • AXS TV
  • BBC America
  • BBC World News
  • BET
  • Cheddar
  • CMT
  • Comedy Central
  • Discovery
  • DIY
  • GSN
  • IFC
  • ID
  • MTV
  • MTV2
  • Nick
  • Nick Jr.
  • Teen Nick
  • OWN
  • Paramount
  • Sci
  • Sundance
  • TLC
  • TV Land
  • Velocity
  • VH1
  • WE

Sling + Philo

Sling also has two plan options, but both include live TV. Sling Orange offers 25 channels for $20/month. There’s also an option to includeadd-onn channels with packages including comedy, sports, lifestyle, and premium. Those extras can quickly add up. An alternative to buying separate packages is using a Philo subscription to supplement Sling Orange.

These are the extra channels you’ll get:

  • Animal Planet
  • BBC World News
  • BET
  • CMT
  • Discovery
  • DIY
  • Food Network
  • FYI
  • GSN
  • ID
  • Lifetime Movies
  • MTV
  • MTV2
  • Nick
  • Nick Jr.
  • Teen Nick
  • OWN
  • Paramount
  • Sci
  • Sundance
  • TLC
  • TV Land
  • Velocity
  • VH1
  • WE

Sling Blue offers 40 channels for $25/month. The channels vary slightly from those included in the Orange package. (We covered those differences in this post, if you’re looking for a breakdown of which option is best for you.) Again, you’ll have the option of including add on channels for an additional monthly fee.

Combining your Sling Blue subscription with a Philo subscription will give you these additional channels:

  • Animal Planet
  • BBC World News
  • CMT
  • Discovery
  • DIY
  • FYI
  • GSN
  • ID
  • Lifetime Movies
  • MTV
  • MTV2
  • Nick
  • Teen Nick
  • OWN
  • Paramount
  • Sci
  • Sundance
  • TLC
  • TV Land
  • Velocity
  • VH1
  • WE

Now it is important to remember that many of these channels are available in add-ons with Sling TV. If you only want a few channels it is likely cheaper to just get a $5 Sling TV add-on. So do the math and see what is right for you.
