Google Fiber announced today that it will be launching “2 Gig” – an internet option “bringing even more bandwidth and speed to customers in internet-intensive households who may need more than a gig to do their thing, whatever that may be.”
Google Fiber launched in 2010 with 1 Gig speeds. Now, the company recognizes that households need more speed and bandwidth and are responding by introducing 2 Gig speeds. The service will cost $100 per month for 2 gigabits download and 1 gigabit uploads, a $30 increase from the current 1 Gig plan.
Google Fiber will be testing the plan in Nashville and Huntsville next month before expanding to other Google Fiber cities this fall. If you live in those areas, you can join the Google Fiber Trusted Tester program to become a tester and help Google Fiber tweak the service before it reaches more customers.
