This week at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), Google is showing off new hardware including an Amazon Echo Show competitor.

Google has yet to release a lot of details, but they are showing off an LG version and Google staff told Cord Cutters News there would also be a Lenovo version.

The unit being demoed at NAB showed off mostly what Google Assistant on Android TV can do. It did also offer an option for video calls likely using Google Hangouts and a forward-facing camera.

Google declined to comment on what services the new device would support. Google did show off YouTube, Nest, and the ability to track an arriving Uber, for example. Beyond that Google was mostly showing the ability to ask questions and get answers similar to the Google Assistant on Android.

The demoed LG device did offer stereo speakers on both sides of what looks to be a seven or eight-inch screen.

According to Google employees, the Google’s Amazon Echo Show competitor is targeted for a summer 2018 launch. Beyond that Google was unwilling to comment on what they have planned for their new Google Assistant-based device.

Here is a short video I shot of the device. At first, I shot it just for my own notes but I thought I would be great to share here. Please excuse the poor lighting and video quality.
