Do you own a Fire TV 2? Has your remote stopped working? Does the box shut off? Was it dead on arrival? Or are you struggling to get the back of the remote off? You are not alone!

We have received many comments and emails asking for help with the remote or reporting a bug with the Fire TV. There are also widespread complaints on the Amazon.com listing. Surprisingly the Fire TV 2 only has 2.5 stars out of 5 on Amazon.

Here are a few of the highlights from the Amazon reviews:

“When I load up a Amazon Prime 4K video, it looks and sounds great! BUT! When I leave the video, the screen goes black. I have to power off my receiver and turn it back on to be at the Fire TV menu again. Oh and sometimes, I can get back the menu without having to power cycle the receiver but 9/10, I am unable to.”

“Amazon re-designed the battery cover and it is near impossible to open the door to install batteries. I am a guy w/ strong hands also. TERRIBLE engineering.”

“Dead on arrival very poor quality control from Amazon huge disappointment.”

“Very disappointed. The battery compartment of the remote was almost impossible to open. The remote randomly stops responding. The fire tv itself sometimes takes forever to connect to wifi! This is just sad.”

“Dead On Arrival. Won’t connect to network!’

Even AFTVnews.com received a box that was dead on arrival until Amazon contacted them and helped fix the issue. You can find the full story by clicking HERE.

Surprisingly for a product that was made by Amazon only 20% of the reviews are 5 stars with 56% being 1 or 2 star reviews. We haven’t even talked about announced planned fixes for issues like 5.1 Dolby Digital audio not working with Netflix, Plex, or Hulu.

Many of these issues seem to be software issues that could be fixed but some issues like the Fire TV remote back being extremely difficult to remove are manufacturing issues that need to be addressed.
