HDHomeRun Premium TV is Shutting Down

SiliconDust just announced that they are shutting down their HDHomeRun Premium TV services. This all comes after the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) filed a lawsuit saying Omniverse the company HDHomeRun Premium TV uses to access channels like ESPN and Disney do not have the rights to this content. ACE’s members include AMC, CBS, HBO, NBCUniversal, Fox, Disney, and many others with the goal of protecting their works.

About a month ago the President of Silicondust who operates the HDHomeRun Premium TV services sent Cord Cutters News the following statement: “Yes we are aware of the situation from last week.  SiliconDust is not a party of the lawsuit, but we can be indirectly affected by Omniverse not able to continue their service and so we are in the process of finding out a way to best mitigate any potential interruptions to our service and will let our customers know as soon as we know if there will be any change to the current services”

Now it looks like Silicondust has decided to walk away from HDHomeRun Premium TV at this time. The good news is the HDHomeRun boxes will still work. You will still be able to DVR your antenna and stream it to other devices.

Here is the email sent to HDHomeRun Premium TV customers:

We are ending HDHomeRun Premium TV

We are writing to inform you that we will be ending the HDHomerun Premium TV service over the course of the next 30 days. All individuals currently subscribed to Premium TV will be able to continue their service until their current month of service has concluded, at which time service will not be renewed.
