Christmas time is here, and viewers have been getting into the holiday spirit by streaming festive TV shows and episodes all month long. But while there’s a multitude of Christmas-themed content out there, a few of them are more popular than others.

It turns out, each state around the country has a preference for what TV shows to watch this time of year according to USDish, and The Office is by far the most popular overall ranking as the top searched TV show on Christmas in 27 states. After all, Benihana is a yearly tradition by now, and we can never get enough of Dwight buying up in-demand toys to resell to desperate parents at a profit. Even if it’s not the Christmas episodes they’re after, The Office is clearly a popular rewatch this time of year.

The next most-searched series is another comfort classic – The Simpsons which was the preferred TV show of 15 states including California, Colorado, Florida, and more.

In terms of specific Christmas episodes, we just want to know one thing: Who is watching this much House and The X-Files to get their Christmas fix? The two drama series had the most-watched episodes at Christmas, with ‘It’s a Wonderful Lie’ (House) getting 22.6 million views, and ‘How the Ghosts Stole Christmas’ (The X Files) pulled in 17.3 million.

Working our way down the list, 33% of the Christmas holiday episodes in the top 15 were from House, while The Simpsons, Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother and others also made the list. It’s a little surprising there were no episodes of Friends that made the cut this time of year.

The Office snagged just two episodes in the top 15, but it blew away the competition in search volume during December 2020. How I Met Your Mother, despite landing three spots in the top 15, was the most searched show in just one state. Another interesting find: 60% of the most popular Christmas TV show episodes’ premieres aired between 2000 and 2009. Nostalgia is important during the holidays!
