parrentsCord cutting is all about acing more content when and how you want to watch it, but what if you have young kids in your house? How can you make sure they are not acing content you do not want them to see?

The good news is with cord cutting you can enjoy great parental controls to help ensure your kids are only accessing content you are comfortable with.

Here is our quick guide on how to set up parental controls for some of the most popular cord cutting services.

Netflix

For Netflix you must change the parental controls on their website by going to Your Account page and selecting Manage Profiles. From there you will have 4 different maturity levels to set each profile for.

  • Little Kids – Watch movies and TV shows suitable for all ages.
  • Older Kids – Watch movies and TV shows suitable for older kids.
  • Teens – Watch movies and TV shows suitable for teens.
  • Adults – Watch all movies and TV shows, including mature content.

You can also set a pin for when you want to view a movie with a higher rating than you set the parental controls for.

You can create a PIN on Netflix by visiting the Your Account page and selecting Parental Controls. You will need to enter your account password before you can set up your PIN. Creation of a PIN can only be done on a computer.

  • Enter four numbers into the PIN field (no letters).
  • Set your viewing restriction level.
  • Select Save.

Amazon

Parental Controls give you the option to block playback of videos from certain ratings categories. You can choose which ratings categories you’d like to restrict and on which of your registered devices you’d like these restrictions to apply.

When you have viewing restrictions set, a “lock” symbol appears on videos with ratings in your restricted categories. If you try to start watching one of these titles, you’re prompted to enter your Amazon Video PIN before playback can begin.

You can change the level of content ratings you allow by going to this Amazon Page.

Hulu

At this time Hulu does not offer parental controls. More details can be found on their help page: http://www.hulu.com/help/articles/166617

As a parent I know how great cord cutting can be yet at the same time it does open up a ton of new content that may not be appropriate for my 3-year-old daughter. Thankfully, because of parental controls built into popular streaming services, I can help filter what content she has access to as she learns to control the TV at our house.
