Although there are many smart TVs that are able to connect with Android handsets, many are wondering if they will be able to stream videos from their Android smartphones or tablets to their Apple TVs.

The answer is “Yes!” You will be able to stream from your Android device to your Apple TV and it’s quite easy, actually.

Currently, Apple’s television technology is amongst the best smart TV streaming technologies, next to Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Chromecast. As reported by Advanced Television, it now holds 31% of the streaming TV hardware market, followed by Amazon with 28% of the market share.

Streaming through Apple TV is easier via an iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch via AirPlay, while streaming music is played via Airport Express or the AirPlay-enabled speakers. According to the support page on Apple, AirPlay is compatible with iPhone 4 and the more recent devices, including the latest iPhone SE. The new 4-inch handset from Apple was reported by O2 to run the latest update of iOS 9, which has been labeled the “world’s most advanced mobile operating system.” It comes with improved apps and the recently announced CarPlay that lets you stream music, videos, and files right to your Bluetooth or Wi-Fi enabled cars.

However, Apple TV is no longer just for iOS gadgets, as even Android devices are now able to stream videos and files to the advanced TV technology. In fact, it’s very simple and requires only a couple of steps.

First, make sure that the TV hardware and the Android handset are on the same Wi-Fi network, which is where AirPlay communicates with each device.

For iOS devices with the newest operating system, both are able to use peer-to-peer AirPlay so long as the Bluetooth and the Wi-Fi connection are turned on.

Secondly, you will need a third party app to stream via the TV hardware. AirPlay is only pre-built on Apple devices, thus you will need apps that handle the service in order to stream content. There are plenty of apps at the Google Play Store that offer such services, including:
• AllCast
• AllStream
• Twonky Beam
• PlayTo

Once you’re inside the AirPlay selection, tap the Mirroring button toggle to be able to screen share the content on your mobile device. Now, you are able to view the items on your smartphone or tablet to your TV set.

Aside from streaming video, music and files, users are also able to stream games from their mobile devices to their TV screens via Apple TV. In terms of its streaming usage, a recent research revealed that playing games takes up most of the user share in three main regions (Japan, UK, US). Japan has the largest market share when it comes to the Apple TV users where more than 35% use it for gaming, while the UK has a little above 30% of TV gaming share, and the US has 25%.

From the looks of it, Apple TV now sits in between console and mobile gaming, as the former is now expanding their market reach by offering their HD and graphic-intensive app to the small screen devices with powerful processing power.

“Apple has been discreetly prepping developers for this opportunity, playing up high-quality graphics and the MFi program. With the company’s more rapid revision cycle versus consoles, game developers will have to constantly re-evaluate the potential of the small box. But the early prevalence of games makes expanding to TV a natural progression for iOS game developers,” said the report of App Annie.
