Week 6 of the NFL season has arrived and this week is the first bye week of the first 17-game season. Players for the Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and San Francisco 49ers will be able to rest up this week, as they all have byes.
Some teams aren’t as lucky, the 4-1 Buccaneers will travel to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the 2-3 Eagles on Thursday Night Football. In a short week, the Eagles are coming off a comeback road victory over the 3-2 Panthers. Philly may be without 3-time Pro Bowl LT Lane Johnson in Thursday’s matchup due to a personal matter. If Johnson isn’t able to play, QB Jalen Hurts will be feeling the pressure from one of the best defensive lineman duos of Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea. Plus, QB Tom Brady will be looking to get revenge against the Eagles after he was defeated in Super Bowl LII.
The second national game of the week is an early morning affair when Florida’s other two teams are exported to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. The second and final game of this year’s NFL International Series is a matchup between the 0-5 Jaguars and the 1-4 Dolphins. The NFL is trying to expand the game across the pond with the International Series; however, this week’s game is between two of the worst teams in the league. Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has had a tumultuous season filled with controversy, and one has to wonder if they lose on Sunday, will he be on the flight back home. Meanwhile, the ‘Fins have been sinking, after leaving New England with a win in Week 1, they have dropped their previous 4 games by an average of 19 points.
A couple of 2-3 teams will be under the bright lights of Sunday Night Football. The Russell Wilson-less Seahawks will travel to the City of Bridges to take on an aging Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers. With Wilson out, the Seahawks are expected to start Geno Smith in an important game to stay afloat in a tough NFC West. Big Ben and the Steelers are floundering in the AFC North and are currently in last place. Last week, they were able to hand the Broncos their first loss, and they will need a similar performance to pull off another win.
The last national game of the week is an AFC matchup between the 3-2 Titans and 4-1 Bills. The Titans lead the all-time series 29-19 but the Bills are playing like the best team in the AFC this season. Bills QB Josh Allen is coming off a big game against the defending AFC Champions Kansas City Chiefs. Allen’s play combined with Buffalo’s defense has the Bills in the driver seat in the AFC East. The Titans are a tough team and their RB Derrick Henry leads the NFL in rushing attempts, yards, and TDs, with 142, 640, and 7, respectively. Henry has picked up where he left off last season, where he rushed for over 2,000 yards, a number that he’s on pace to break again due to the extended season.
