After an exciting opening week on the ice, Week 2 of the NHL season begins tonight. As teams are trying to find their footing early in the season, hockey fans can expect star players and elite teams to begin to find their groove on the frozen floor.
Edmonton Oilers phenom Connor McDavid recorded his 10th career hat trick in Week 1 against the Flames. Entering Week 2, he’s in a 9-way tie for third with 3 goals scored. One of the players he is tied with is future Hall of Famer Washington Capital LW Alex Ovechkin. LA Kings C Anze Kopitar and Detroit Red Wings LW Tyler Bertuzzi are tied first with 4 goals each.
The 1-1-1 Seattle Kraken may be the story of the year, so far. The upstart franchise played 3-games during the first week of the season, and in the first 3-games in team history, their 2 losses were by 1 goal each. Their lone victory was also by 1 goal against a tough Predators team. If the Kraken can learn from these close losses and bounce back throughout the season then they may be able to shock the world like the Golden Knights did in their inaugural season to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance.
There has never been an undefeated team in NHL history, but the ‘79-80 Flyers have the longest undefeated streak at 35 games. Entering Week 2, there are 10 undefeated teams remaining in the league, which is up from 7 that were undefeated after the opening week last season,
