Baseball on the Infield Chalk Line

Tonight, history will be made with the first MLB game to be played in the state of Iowa. Inspired by the 1989 movie of the same name, the Field of Dreams Game was originally scheduled for 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic.

Released in 1989,  Field of Dreams is a sports fantasy drama adapted from W. P. Kinsella’s 1982 novel Shoeless Joe. Kevin Costner stars as a farmer who builds a baseball field that attracts the legendary ghosts of baseball’s past greats. Ray Liotta shines as MLB Hall of Famer Shoeless Joe Jackson with Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones, and Burt Lancaster also in starring roles.

The film has gone on to become an iconic sports movie and one of the all-time best baseball films. It was a critical success and scored three Academy Awards nominations for Best Picture, Best Original Score, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Due to its historical, cultural, and aesthetic significance, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2017. Fans can now watch the movie free on Peacock.

Dreams will be made when the 63-51 New York Yankees take on the 67-48 Chicago White Sox in an American League matchup. This will be the 4th game in their season series, where the Yankees lead 3-0. Andrew Heaney (Yankees) and Lance Lynn (White Sox) will be the starting pitchers at the Field of Dreams.

Tonight’s game will take place at Field of Dreams ballpark in Dyersville, Iowa. Like in the film, the ballpark was specially constructed in the cornfields near the site of the movie. There will be 8,000 fans in attendance but cord cutters can find out how to watch the MLB Field of Dreams Game below.
