This Thanksgiving, cord cutters can feast their eyes with a hearty schedule of NFL football. Thanksgiving Day football is a tradition that has spanned back over six decades and it’s going stronger than ever. There are 2 games slated for the holiday, with the third (Baltimore/Pittsburgh, originally scheduled for Thursday at 8:20 p.m.) rescheduled for Sunday, November 29.
Here’s a breakdown on where and how to watch all of the action of Week 12 NFL Thanksgiving Day football.
The Games – Start Times and Channels
Game | Kickoff Time | TV Channel |
Houston Texans at Detroit Lions | 12:30 p.m. ET | CBS |
Washington Football Team at Dallas Cowboys | 4:30 p.m. ET | FOX |
The early game will start at 12:30 PM ET on CBS as the 4-6 Detroit Lions play their 81st Thanksgiving Day game in a 2012 Turkey Day rematch against the 3-7 Houston Texans. After Detroit was shut out this past Sunday versus the Carolina Panthers, they’re looking to stay in the divisional race as they welcome the Texans to Ford Field. This will be the only game played that will not have fans in attendance.
The afternoon game will kickoff at 4:30 PM EST on Fox, as the 3-7 Washington Football Team travels to AT&T Stadium ( aka Jerryworld) in a matchup against their storied divisional rivals the 3-7 Dallas Cowboys in what will have big implications in a woeful NFC East. This game has a strong possibility of being the tiebreaker for the division winner.

Predictions: Expect one physical game with a side of headscratching.
The Lions-Texans game is the perfect appetizer this Thanksgiving. The Texans have been playing like a different team since their Week 8 bye and are coming off a victory against the New England Patriots. Whereas the Detroit Lions are a complete 180. The Lions have lost 3 out of 4 games since Week 8, with all 3 losses by two scores or more, including a 20-0 shutout against the Panthers this past Sunday. Lions head coach Matt Patricia has looked bewildered in their last few games and he’s going to have to turn it around if he wants to return next season. 27-21 Texans win.
It is very likely that the winner of the NFC East will be well below .500 at this point. This is the rare game where both teams are 3-7, yet they’re only half a game back from tying the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles. This will be the tryptophan game of the day. Both teams have played as well as their record indicates, but Alex Smith just threw for his first touchdown in 2 years this past Sunday, and I expect he’ll make the most out of the Dallas defense. 17-13 Washington win.
