This weekend, one of the biggest fights of the year will take place in the Octagon at UFC 269: Oliveira vs Poirier. UFC Lightweight Champion Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira will defend his title against Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier in the main event of the 15-fight card.

Oliveira is one of the most dominant fighters to ever step foot in the Octagon. He’s 31-8-1 and has the most submission wins in UFC history with 14 and the most finishes with 17. He’s currently on a 9-fight win streak with 8 of his victories by finish. The lightweight champion has not been defeated since 2017 and is a tap-out master with 19 of his 31 wins by submission.

At 28-6, Porier will be a tough opponent for Oliveira. He’s one of the most accomplished fighters currently competing in the UFC. As a former interim champion, “The Diamond” is the 5th-best pound-for-pound fighter in the promotion and is coming off two of his biggest wins against UFC legend Conor McGregor at UFC 257 and UFC 264. His victories over McGregor were at the two biggest PPVs ever on ESPN+, and the 2nd and 3rd biggest in UFC history. Outside of McGregor, other big names to lose to Poirer in 7 of his last 8 fights, including Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, and Dan Hooker. With a win on Saturday,  Poirier can walk out of the Octagon as the undisputed champion in his 2nd title shot.

Originally scheduled for UFC 265, UFC Bantamweight Champion  Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes will defend her title against 4th-ranked Women’s Bantamweight and 1st female Ultimate Fighter winner “The Venezuelan” Julianna Pena (10-4) in the co-main event. Nunes had to pull out of their earlier scheduled fight due to COVID but this will be her first Bantamweight title defense in 2 years. At 21-4), “The Lioness” is the Women’s Bantamweight and Featherweight champion, #1 pound for pound female fighter, longest-reigning UFC champion, 2016 and 2018 Female Fighter of the Year, and like Poirier, she trains at the American Top Team gym.
