Later today, Disney will announce its official 1st quarter 2020 numbers. (Note Disney’s 1st quarter 2020 earnings ends in December.) Now we are getting early hints that Hulu may have over 3 million live TV subscribers. Hulu with live TV will reportedly share that the service has over 3 million subscribers, thanks in part to Disney+’s launch in November 2019
Disney does not typically release subscriber numbers for Hulu with live TV. Yet if these reports are accurate, that would make Hulu the first live TV streaming services with over 3 million live TV subscribers. In the past, Disney has said that Hulu was the fastest growing live TV streaming service. Thanks to Disney’s deals to offer ESPN and other channels on its competitors, it gets insights into subscriber numbers for other live TV streaming services.
Yesterday Google announced that YouTube TV now has over 2 million subscribers; this puts YouTube TV in 3rd place behind Hulu and Sling TV. This is the first time in some time that YouTube TV has officially announced subscriber numbers.
It had been hinted that YouTube TV had over 2 million subscribers, but yesterday it was made official. This means the race for the largest live TV streaming service has come down to YouTube TV, Hulu, and Sling TV has these three services have started to pull away from the competition leaving AT&T TV NOW, FuboTV, and more far behind them.
