Sports Fans Watching TVThis week Hulu announced some details about their success during the World Cup. One of the most interesting notes was that daily sign-ups to Hulu’s live TV streaming service went up 50% during the World Cup, compared to the 90 days prior. This is according to a statement sent to Cord Cutters News from Hulu. Hulu did not announce what the new total live TV subscribers are but before the World Cup started they had already hit 800,000 live TV subscribers and 20 million total subscribers.

This rapid growth in subscribers should put Hulu in a tight race for 3rd place with YouTube TV for the most live TV subscribers behind DIRECTV NOW and Sling TV.

Here are some other interesting facts about Hulu’s world cup coverage:

The Golden State couldn’t get enough of the World Cup.

Throughout the tournament, California residents watched more than 1.2 million hours of soccer on Hulu – almost twice the number of hours than any other state.

France may have won the ultimate prize, but Croatia was the real fan favorite.

While France claimed the most coveted trophy on Sunday, it was Croatia that garnered the title of Hulu’s “most watched team” during the World Cup. Hulu viewers streamed 290,000 more hours of the red-and-white soccer matches than any other team in the tournament.

The World Cup final scored the most eyeballs during the game’s Sunday timeslot.

More than 69% of viewers watching live TV between 11am – 1pm ET were tuned in to the World Cup final game on Hulu. And, those not watching the game were enjoying the Wimbledon final, FOX’s America’s News HQ or Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
