The bill was proposed in the State House by Independent Representative Jeffrey Evangelos. “For instance, I want NESN. I want to watch the Red Sox, but I don’t want to watch Jimmy Swaggert, so I shouldn’t be forced to pay for that,” Evangelos said.
As you would expect many cable companies are opposed to this bill. Spectrum released a statement in opposition to the bill saying: “Spectrum is committed to giving our customers the products they want, and we continue to launch new traditional and streaming video products to better serve the consumer demand for more choice. We’re opposed to LD832 because it’s preempted under federal law and fails to take into account the competitive video marketplace, and the fact that the way consumers get their video content has changed dramatically and continues to evolve.”
