Movies Anywhere has just reached a huge milestone. The service, which allows users to build and store their digital movie collections in one convenient location, has reached 8 million registered users.

When Movies Anywhere GM Karin Gilford made the announcement at the Entertainment Merchants Association’s OTT_X@Pipeline 2019 conference in Los Angeles September 25, she also shared news that Movies Anywhere now has 7,800 titles and 200 million movies stored, according to a report from Media Play News.

Along with sharing these milestones, Gilford also announced that Movies Anywhere has made a deal with Verizon for the company to become the eighth retail partner for Movies Anywhere.

When it came to talking about retail partnerships, Gilford said “On a day to day basis, we are working with them so that how we connect to the overall ecosystem is smooth.”

“We launched a new advertising campaign that just kicked off a couple of weeks ago,” Gilford added. She was sharing news about a campaign that has launched on cable and OTT services, in theaters, in airports, and on social media.

The campaign, she explained, was designed to be sure that consumers know exactly what Movies Anywhere is and what it can offer viewers. Gilford made it clear that Movies Anywhere isn’t trying to compete with new services like Disney+ and Apple TV+. They offer a unique and separate type of service.

“A lot of consumers don’t understand the economics and the business models that power the entertainment industry,” she said. “Why do you have to have ads in these episodes? Wait, all of these movies aren’t free? Those things do still come up even in 2019, and so it is really important, especially for something like Movies Anywhere, to be very clear about what we’re doing, what type of content is in here and what the mission is.”

Other retail partners include Retail partners include iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Walmart’s Vudu, Xfinity, Google Play, Microsoft Movies & TV and FandangoNow.
