This week NBCUniversal announced that it is shutting down its Peacock Products Group, which focused on unscripted content. Now NBC says it is shifting strategy according to a report from Variety.

“NBC News is shifting its documentary strategy to an entirely new model, consistent with industry trends, and unfortunately the existing operation is no longer viable,” NBC News said in a statement to Variety. “We are working with affected employees to help find positions around NBC Universal.”

According to reports, NBC News made this move to help address the changing world of online streaming. Now NBC News will use outside groups and other departments for its unscripted content.

This change will affect more than 30 employees and NBC hopes to move them to other jobs within NBC. This all comes as the demand for documentaries has grown. A number of streaming services have made a name for themselves with high end documentaries. Now the question is what does Comcast’s NBC News plan to do to fill the gap.
