A few months ago, we learned that NBC News including the MSNBC team will be launching a new news service. Now that new streaming service will launch later today.

NBC News Now will offer 8 hours of free live news every day from 3 PM to 11 PM Eastern. You will be able to stream the new NBC News Now feed on NBC’s website and the NBC News App with devices like Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, iOS, and Android.

Speaking at the SXSW conference this a few months ago, NBC News President Noah Oppenheim said “We will be doing original work that will be specific for the streaming service. We will be drawing from the reporting that takes place across all the other NBC News properties,” he said. “We will actually be reaching into other corners of NBCUniversal, E! News, sports, you name it, for some of that content.”

Oppenheim made it clear that this new service is targeting cord cutters. “When breaking news mandates, we’ll go up live as well,” Oppenheim said. “So, for folks who don’t have a traditional cable subscription, it will be a great way to access the reporting of NBC News.”

NBC has 20 dedicated staff working on the new NBC News Now service with Erica Fink as executive producer and Christine Cataldi as contributing executive producer for NBC News. NBC says they want the service to target the “news junkies” who want to feel up to date.
