NBC’s new streaming service Peacock has reached 1.5 million app downloads in less than a week after launching July 15. According to Sensor Tower, Peacock was the number one app in the Apple Store for its first two days on the market and has ranked number 2 on Google Play since July 17.
While app download numbers may not be the best data at predicting how well a new streaming service will perform in the future, it’s at least an indicator to start with. Peacock can celebrate that its numbers are looking 25% better than Quibi’s at launch. The short form video app is struggling to stay afloat and reports show it lost 90% of its users after the free trial ended.
Disney+ still remains the holy grail of streaming service launches, and the ultimate force to be reckoned with. The House of Mouse saw an astonishing 13 million downloads in the first 6 days after launching. That’s 88% greater than Peacock’s reported numbers for the same time period.
Peacock offers a free tier with limited content and ads, along with a premium tier for $4.99/month. Subscribers can also upgrade to an ad-free experience for an additional $5/month.
