Yesterday at Code Conference, Netflix CEO Reed Hasting spoke with CNBC’s Squawk Alley. He covered a wide range of topics and had a few interesting points about Amazon, net neutrality, and more.

Amazon

Reed Hastings seems to be impressed with Amazon even if he thinks Netflix and Amazon are two very different companies.

During the interview Reed Hasting said, “They’re so scary. Everything Amazon does is just so amazing…I don’t know if they’re the biggest threat, but they’re awfully scary.”

However, that does not mean he thinks Netflix and Amazon are going after the same market. “They are trying to be Walmart; we are trying to be Starbucks,” Reed Hastings said.

Net Neutrality

It seems that Netflix has a different stance on the current efforts to change the Title II rules. At least at Netflix there is not great concern. “Even if [the FCC] undermines the Title II rules, my guess would be the net neutrality rules are still followed,” said Reed Hastings.

The Future of Netflix

Netflix has a clear plan for its next steps. According to Reed Hastings, Netflix will continue to be focused on TV and movies, and it has no plans to jump into news or sports as Hastings doesn’t want “content that you only want to consume once.”
