Dust off your sleuthing magnifying glass, Netflix is nearing a deal to secure rights to second and third Knives Out films. If the deal goes through, Daniel Craig will be reprising his role as Benoit Blanc with Rian Johnson back in the director’s chair. Johnson has already written the two sequels, so now it’s just a matter of waiting for the green light.
Deadline reports the deal is worth close to $450 million, making it one of the biggest streamer movie deals in history. Apparently, there was some kind of secret auction for the inevitable sequels between Netflix, Apple, and Amazon, and Netflix is closing in. The second film is set to start casting immediately and begin shooting June 28 in Greece. There’s no word yet if any of the other A-list cast members will be joining, including Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, or Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
The first Knives Out movie had a budget of $40 million which turned around and made above $310 million gross. The film came about when Johnson wanted to create an Agatha Christie-esque whodunit mystery and enlisted Craig who had some downtime between his James Bond filming.
