Netflix is testing a shuffle feature to help indecisive subscribers have their next show or movie chosen for them. Clicking a “Shuffle Play” button on the Netflix home screen, under a user’s profile icon, plays a title that user is likely to enjoy. Titles include shows the user is currently watching, those added to a user’s watch list, or content similar to titles the user has already watched.
Netflix users have been sharing their reactions to the feature on social media.
Sound familiar? Last year, Netflix tested a similar feature that would let users shuffle episodes within a series. That feature allowed users to pick a show, choose the shuffle option, and begin playing random episodes, rather than working through the list in order. Earlier this summer, Netflix tried the idea of shuffle feature again, by adding a “Play Something” option to the menu.
The newest Shuffle feature has only been rolled out to some subscribers as a test. Netflix will use feedback from the test to determine if the feature will become permanent and available to all subscribers.
