Netflix has slowly been building up their library of original content, and now they have struck a major deal for John Scalzi’s modern sci-fi classic Old Man’s War. According to reports from Deadline, Netflix will turn the book into a movie for their streaming service.
Jon Scalzi is a three-time Hugo award winner including best novel for his 2013 book Redshirts. He was also the president of the Science Fiction Writers of America. Scalzi has projects in development with FX and, in 2015, he signed a 10-year 13-book deal with Tor Books.
Here is how the book Old Man’s War is described:
John Perry did two things on his 75th birthday. First he visited his wife’s grave. Then he joined the army.
The good news is that humanity finally made it into interstellar space. The bad news is that planets fit to live on are scarce—and alien races willing to fight us for them are common. So: we fight. To defend Earth, and to stake our own claim to planetary real estate. Far from Earth, the war has been going on for decades: brutal, bloody, unyielding.
No date has been set for when the movie will be released.
