New Device Listings Hint at Possible New Fire TV Remote

A photo of a rumored new Fire TV remote control

A series of device listings from regulatory offices in several countries appear to reference a new remote control that could be coming to the Fire TV lineup in the future. Protocol’s Janko Roettgers tweeted about an FCC listing that mentions a new Bluetooth-enabled device with a model number of L5B83G. And while device photos aren’t available through the FCC, a device with that same model number has popped up elsewhere, leading to speculation about new Fire TV Gear.

A Brazilian blog mentioned spotting a device listing with that same model number back in December, but a lack of photos made speculation difficult. However, a listing over at Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications with the same model number includes photos of a remote that does indeed bear something of a family resemblance to the current Fire TV remote controls.

Note the area likely for direct access to four streaming services at the bottom of the remote.

Perhaps the most notable addition we can take away from the photos is the presence of four hotkeys at the bottom of the device. And while they’re labeled with generic “Partner” names in the photos, it’s not hard to imagine services like Netflix, Hulu, and others being featured on the final product.

However, this all remains speculation. As AFTVNews pointed out, the FCC filing doesn’t mention Amazon as a manufacturer, nor does the Japanese listing that includes photos. The report from Brazil, however, does mention Amazon by name. In any case, we’ll continue to keep an eye out for new Fire TV tech as the year progresses.
