Yesterday Nielsen had their third quarter 2017 call, and it included some interesting over-the-air TV facts.

Some of the information has been known for some time such as over-the-air TV usage is growing. But we also learned that over-the-air TV viewers are multicultural, and they are trending younger.

One big fact that really stood out was that over-the-air TV homes account for up to 65% of TV station local news and sports audiences. The Nielsen report went on to say, “These viewers aren’t represented in set-top box data. But our measurement, thanks to our panels, captures these viewers well and always has.

These numbers line up with reports coming from antenna manufacturers who say sales have gone way up. It seems that the once almost forgotten form of free over-the-air TV is making a strong comeback in the day and age of cord cutting.
