Now You Can Go to the Movies Every Day for Just $10 a Month

Do you love going to the movie theater but hate the high costs? MoviePass wants to change that with a new $9.95 a month plan that lets you see one new movie every day.

“The customers pay one flat monthly fee which is now $9.95 and can go to a movie every day at about 90% of theaters,” explained co-founder and COO of MoviePass, Stacy Spikes.

MoviePass has been around for a few months but recently cut its price down to just $9.95 a month.

So how does it work?

Once you sign up for MoviePass it will send you a debit card in 2 to 3 weeks that only works at movie theaters. From there you pick what movie you want to see from the MoviePass app and use your MoviePass card to get your tickets at the box office or kiosk.

Now there are a few catches. You can only buy a single ticket a day with each MoviePass debit card and it has to be the day of the movie. So you can’t use it to preorder tickets days out. You also must be within 100 yards of the movie theater when you select the movie you want to see. (Effectively it wants you to be at the movie theater when you get your tickets.)

Not all movie theaters accept the card but over 4,000 theaters around the United States work with MoviePass including several major movie chains such as Regal, AMC, and Cinemark.

Sounds good for consumers, but I don’t know how the service is going to make any money over the long term.

Their CEO explained in another article that their average customer watches like one movie a month. Some binge on movies, some see a few per month, but the average is low enough for them to remain profitable overall. Also their long term plan is to become as big as Netflix and then negotiate directly with theaters for a cut in profits.

I had thought the same thing, but what you’re saying makes sense. I pay a monthly subscription for unlimited car washes, sometimes I use it daily, but most of the time I use it once or twice a month.

I hope this business plan works out for them. The movie industry could use a shakeup similar to the cable industry.

It took over 1 month, but my card did finally come. I’ve used it 3 times with no issues. Great deal for however long it lasts.
