PlayStation Vue currently has two versions of their streaming service and the version you get depends on which Roku device you’re using. If you have an older Roku Player you are likely not seeing the most up to date PlayStation Vue experience.

If you have a Roku with the Roku OS 8.0 or higher you will be able to get the newest PlayStation Vue app. If you have an older Roku like the first gen purple Roku Stick you are likely, not able to see the latest PlayStation Vue experience. The good news is if you have an old Roku with the old PlayStation Vue app you can upgrade to a new Roku starting at just $29.99 with a Roku Express.

Here’s what the PlayStation Vue website says about the two versions:

PlayStation Vue is compatible on Roku Players and TVs with firmware 7.7 and up in two different software versions: PlayStation Vue 1.8 and PlayStation Vue 2.9. The version of PlayStation Vue available to you depends on your Roku Player or TV model and the Roku firmware version on that device.

Version 2.9 is currently available on these Roku devices, which have Roku firmware 8.0 and above:

  • Roku 4
  • Roku 3
  • Roku 2
  • Roku Express/+
  • Roku TV (non-4K, 4K, and 4K HDR)
  • Roku Premiere /+
  • Roku Ultra
  • Roku Streaming Stick /+ (latest gen)

All other Roku devices, including those with firmware versions under 8.0, will get PlayStation Vue version 1.8.

To make sure you’re using the latest version, follow these steps on your Roku device.

  • Step 1: Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  • Step 2: Scroll up or down and select Settings.
  • Step 3: Select System.
  • Step 4: Select System Update.
  • Step 5: Select Check Now to manually check for updates.
