DIRECTV NOW has been known for some crazy good deals to get subscribers. Now we are getting an idea of just how many people took them up on this deal.
During a talk at the 2019 Global TMT West Conference in Las Vegas, AT&T Chief Financial Officer John Stephens said, “At the end of the second quarter last year, about 500,000 DIRECTV NOW subscribers were on $10 per month promotional pricing plans.
Stephens went on to say, “By yearend 2018, virtually no subscribers remained on this plan.”
During 2018, AT&T ended most discounted DIRECTV NOW plans and raised the price of DIRECTV NOW by $5 a month. AT&T has repeatedly said they plan to get additional revenue from DIRECTV NOW, and it seems one of the ways they are doing this is by cutting out promotional offers like the $10 a month deal.
AT&T has already announced that they expect DIRECTV NOW subscriber numbers to fall. Part of this likely comes from the fact that AT&T has slowly been ending promotional offers that they used to effectively buy subscribers.
