The Paramount Network Launches on Sling TV, DIRECTV NOW, & Philo

If you are a fan of Spike TV we have bad news for you. Yesterday was the last day Spike TV will air in the United States. Today January 18th 2018 Spike TV will be rebranded as the Paramount Network as part of Viacom’s move to update their brand and to take advantage of their ownership of Paramount.

“Today we launch Paramount Network, inspired by over a century of cinematic excellence and dedicated to bringing premium storytelling to every screen,” said the network. “Telling stories that entertain, inspire and challenge. Stories you feel.”

Paramount will continue many of the shows on Spike TV and add more scripted shows like Waco about the David Koresh’s Branch Davidian compound and the government siege back in 1993.

This means Sling TV, DIRECTV NOW, and Philo subscribers will soon see their Spike TV channel be rebranded as Paramount Network later tonight. There is nothing you need to do but just remember the guide may or may not update with the new logos overnight.

Other shows on the Paramount Network will include Heathers, American Woman, Yellowstone, Lip Sync Battle, Ink Master, Bar Rescue, Bellator MMA and more. You can find a full list of shows that will air on the Paramount Network on their website HERE.

“Paramount Network is a premium entertainment destination that pushes the limits of story-telling with bold original scripted and non-scripted series. Inspired by over a century of cinema, Paramount Network is where today’s brightest stars bring the experience of the big screen to every screen with stories that are immersive, inclusive, and deeply personal.” Viacom said on their website.

Booo. Stories I feel…what the hell are they talking about?

  2. Garry January 18, 2018 at 11:20 am #

Now if paramount would join movies anywhere, that would be news.

    Yeah, Premium.

I am unfamiliar with any of these shows.

Oh hey look, it’s basically the return of UPN!

      …not so much lol.

    • Jason F. Perry January 18, 2018 at 12:38 pm #

Isn’t that exactly what this is?

Looks like it! Also, before Spike, it was TNN, The Nashville Network. In 2012, TNN was revived as a separate channel and then in 2013 it was rebranded Heartland.

Broadcasters cannot get our vanilla paste palatable for enough eyeballs to maximize ad revenue.

CBS is the only thing that will save Viacom

More than 2 or 3 New programs and less marathons could also help.

I beginning to see all cable channels are like that. Reruns all day and a few originals at night, mostly reality. That’s why Netflix, Hulu, Amazon are thriving.

Don’t miss any of the Viacom channels that PSVue took away(Bates Motel was over anyway) and that doesn’t look like it will change…for me at least.

    • Robert Anthony Hartzell January 18, 2018 at 3:10 pm #

Bates Motel is A&E, which Vue has never had. Vue would have been better off having A&E from the get-go than Viacom.

Oops you’re right. I had had a brain cramp. Somehow I was thinking they we’re in there. So Viacom channels are even worse than I thought!

I browsed through the guide for today on spike/paramount and saw the same reruns of cops, friends etc that I saw the week prior. Will be glad when they actually show the “premium”.

    • NashGuy January 18, 2018 at 3:30 pm #

The “premium” is the new original series and mini-series that they’ve had in the works for awhile now, including Waco this month, with Yellowstone, American Woman and Heathers coming in the following weeks. I think the idea is to be for Viacom what FX is for Fox: a flagship cable channel with quality original scripted content, plus re-runs of their studio’s theatrical movies. But it’s going to take them awhile to build up their slate of new stuff, so we’ll still see a lot of the same old stuff carried over from Spike for awhile. And I don’t think they have any intent, for now, to get rid of the few successful non-scripted originals that Spike was known for, particularly Lip Sync Battle. It’s more of a transition than a re-launch.

        Particularly Bar Rescue

Where are all the Star Trek shows? I really miss Spike how it was right around 2005-2008.

    • Fred Koot January 18, 2018 at 2:18 pm #

      Netflix, Hulu, CBS all access

    • Steve Hansen January 18, 2018 at 4:46 pm #

TNN to Spike TV to TPN, lol! Third rebranding’s a charm, I guess.

This channel sucks as does just about EVERYTHING on SLINGTV. $25 per month? You get what you pay for. Have spent about 4 F’in hours trying to get through the move “Casino”. If you can stand the constant regurgitated FH1 commercials that go on for 10-15 minutes EVERY 10 minutes. Good luck. You can let the movie run to near the end and then rewind and you MIGHT skip the commercials but SLING will kick you off their system and you will have to start all over again. Try it and again, good luck.
