PlayStation Vue Removes “Out of Home” Mobile Restrictions

Online movie stream with mobile device. Man watching film on tablet with imaginary video player service.Yesterday PlayStation Vue started to update their iOS apps and the biggest new feature is the fact that they removed “Out of Home” mobile restrictions. Now you can watch all of your channels on the go even when you are out of town.

Here are the notes from this week’s PlayStation Vue update:

No more Out of Home viewing restrictions. Watch more programming on your mobile phone while you’re out of your home or even traveling.

Traveling? Watch the locally available channels live where you’re visiting, while you still DVR your home local channels.

And no matter where you are in the country, you can now keep watching programming from your home regional sports networks.

This is for mobile only. It looks like you will still not be able to bring your Roku, Apple TV, or Fire TV to a hotel and watch PlayStation Vue. In the past, you would have to had synced your mobile device on your home network from time to time. There were also some channels who limited access on mobile devices. Now it looks like the need to sync your mobile device on your home network has been removed.

This is similar to how other live TV services limit access. Hulu, for example, will let you watch your live TV on your phone or tablet outside of your home network, but if you take your Roku with you will be unable to watch Hulu with live TV.

PlayStation Vue did announce recently that you will be able to also access locals even when you are on the go. Hopefully, this is just the start of Sony’s efforts to make PlayStation Vue even more accessible out of your home network.
