PlayStation Vue Removes “Out of Home” Restrictions on Roku Players

Earlier this week PlayStation Vue removed “Out of Home” mobile restrictions. Now you can watch all of your channels on the go even when you are out of town on your phone or tablet. Today Sony also removed “Out of Home” restrictions on Roku Players and Roku TVs.

This morning we tested out PlayStation Vue in our office and still received the message about being out of our home locations.

After we took that photo we updated our Roku and found a new PlayStation Vue update:

Once that update finished we could stream PlayStation Vue in our review lab outside of what PS Vue considered my home location.

Sony has not made any announces about the Roku update but here are the notes from this week’s PlayStation Vue update notes for their Android update:

No more Out of Home viewing restrictions. Watch more programming on your mobile phone while you’re out of your home or even traveling.

Traveling? Watch the locally available channels live where you’re visiting, while you still DVR your home local channels.

And no matter where you are in the country, you can now keep watching programming from your home regional sports networks.

We are not sure what devices Sony has updated but it is likely soon you will be able to use Roku, Apple TV, or Fire TV to watch PlayStation Vue in a hotel or at a second home.

PlayStation Vue did announce recently that you will be able to also access locals even when you are on the go. Hopefully, this is just the start of Sony’s efforts to make PlayStation Vue even more accessible out of your home network.
