Recently Pluto TV asked the FCC for a waiver releasing it from the need to offer closed captions for one to three years. Pluto TV says they need the extra time in order to become compliant with the closed caption rules.
Pluto TV is asking for a one-year waiver for the following devices: Hisense; Playstation 3 (PS3); Samsung Orsay (2013-2014)/Samsung Tizen (2015-2016); Vizio Via/Vizio Via + Blink Browser; and Vizio WatchFree. Pluto TV is also asking for a three-year waiver on devices like the Xbox 360 for which it says it needs more time.
Pluto TV says that 90% of its apps are already compliant with the closed caption rules imposed by the FCC. Pluto TV says the devices listed above need more time to become fully compliant. According to Pluto TV, the reason these platforms need more time is that “the platforms being dated and lacking core capabilities, the company focusing its resources on the most heavily-used platforms, and the platforms not making available certain software upgrades.”
