Quibi now has a new ad-supported tier available to users in Australia and New Zealand that’s completely free. The streamer recently sent out emails to subscribers informing them of the new available option, saying its “now offering an ad-supported free plan so you can choose the right option for you.”
Along with a free tier, Quibi unveiled new, reduced prices for its existing plans in those countries, lowering from $12.99 to $6.99 AUD. The new subscription fee will be applied to existing accounts automatically, and new subscribers will be offered the new lower price, The Verge reports. Per the email, “No need to take action, just enjoy the extra six bucks.”
It sounds like this may be a testing phase Quibi is rolling out in Australia and New Zealand to see if it can pull in more customers to its waning subscriber base. It may be the streamer is piloting this free option to see if it’s a viable option for boosting subscriptions across the globe. This is just speculation though, no signs point to a free tier in the US or any other countries as of now.
Quibi has struggled to retain (or even generate) interest right out of the gate. Reports show the quick-bite video platform lost 90% of its users after the free trial ended just 90 days after launch. This new free tier and reduced price is the latest moves the streamer is making in an effort to stay afloat amid a myriad of robust competition.
