Streaming services have been pulling out all the stops this year with releasing blockbuster movies. HBO Max’s deal with Warner Bros. for day and date releases has proved to be a big win for the streamer. According to data from Reelgood, HBO Max had the two biggest movie opening weekends of any other streaming service in Q2 with Mortal Kombat on April 23 and Godzilla vs Kong on April 2.

Netflix’s zombie-heist movie Army of the Dead reached third place, bringing its apocalyptic action to viewers’ screens May 21. The long-time streamer also landed the fourth spot with The Woman in the Window starring Amy Adams and Julianne Moore. Viewers seemed to be in the mood for scary movies as The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It also made the list.

Disney+ had a slower quarter in terms of full-length movie releases but managed to find its way into the middle of the popularity pack with its animated family movie Luca. The streaming service was focused on its big-budget TV series like Loki, and The Bad Batch during Q2.
