The G-Box Q is a very impressive with 4K, quad core processor, XBMC/Kodi, and Android 4.4. Smooth video play and an attractive design from the box to the menus make this a great solid option for anyone looking for an Android or XBMC player.

*Recently the G-Box Q was updated with a newer interface that is even more stable and beautiful.

  • Beautiful box to rival any set top box. No need to hide this behind your TV.
  • The Quad Core box is a huge improvement over the older version.

Hi – I noticed on the menu screen before xbmc something called 4k movie player ? Have you used it ? Also because this box can do 4k does that require a person to buy a 4k tv ? Another question was how was buffering ? Any lag or out of sync issues on 1080 p videos ? Have you upgraded it to kodi yet as well ? Thanks

It is a player that lets you watch 4k videos if you have any. I do not own a 4k TV so I can’t test it. You do not need a 4k TV to use this box but if you want to watch 4K content you need a 4k TV. Just like if you want HD you need a HD TV. Yes I have used Kodi on it and it works great. No lag and no issues with 1080p video.

I have a home NAS device that contains my XBMC movies library as well as my music and picture libraries.

Will I be able to access these libraries from the G-Box? The NAS can share these libraries via SMB and/or NFS.

    –Thanks, Chris

Yes the G-Box Q can access a NAS content like yours through XBMC. Here is a great page about it. http://kodi.wiki/view/NAS

im missing xbmc on my gbox q, can i just download kodi and sideload, or is there a better version for the q?

The Media center is a skinned version of XBMC. You can install a clean full version by following this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ae3BWKdR4w Two people left comments on the video saying the last update now makes you install it form the appinstall option. I have not reinstalled XBMC since the last big update. The video will be the same but for where you find it after you download it. So if you can’t open it from your download check your appinstall.

Have you tried using the xbmc/kodi pvr function with the Q? I have an MX2 and have had issues getting that to work using windows media center client.

Yes the latest version of stock Kodi works great on the Q. Here is how to install the latest version on the G-Box Q. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNJd9hWqK8E

I have tested a lot of addons with the G-Box Q using stock Kodi and had no issues.

Do I need the g com q key to install kodi?

    • Avatar

NO you do not need the Key. All the key dose is install apps you could install yourself. If you are not very familiar with installing apps on Kodi it dose make it easy.

When I load xbmc on my new box I get a pop that says
“the PVR manager has been enabled without any enabled PVR add-on. Enable at least one Add-on in order to use the PVR functionality”
Did I do something wrong? Is there a PVR add-on I should enable? Thanks

The only issue is that if you install Firefox or Chrome, the Flash player for videos stops working. So no Flash for Firefox and Chrome.

I brought this device last week, after switching ON it asked me to connect the network,
It took much time connect my WiFi router(D-Link). After connecting i could able to see all apps like android mobile. When I am trying to do system update, it throws an error “check your internet connection”(Though it was already connected and Google play store was working fine). When i am trying to access YouTube app, same message is showing “check internet connectivity, can any body update what could be the reason for connection errors and how to update my device.

Can any body suggest the best gadget to operate/play android games in this device.

    – One thing i wanted to express that 4K player in this device is awesome picture clarity and no words to say about surround sound.
