While the battle between Roku and Google continues, Roku finds itself in danger of losing another major streaming service. The Information reports that Roku could lose Amazon Prime Video, along with Amazon’s free streaming service IMDb TV if a deal cannot be reached.
The Information reports that the fight between Roku and Amazon revolves around the free service “as both companies jostle to expand their advertising businesses, in part by using data drawn from their streaming platforms.”
With the current deal set to expire early next year, failing to come to an agreement could mean that Roku would drop IMDb from its platform and, because Amazon packaged the free service with Amazon Prime Video, both would likely be removed from the Roku Channel Store.
IMDb TV was first added to Roku in January, giving Roku users access to originals from Amazon Studios, along with a large content library of shows and movies, all for free. The Roku Channel was added to Amazon’s Fire TV platform in October 2020, bringing’s Roku’s collection of free movies and TV episodes to Fire TV users.
