Roku announced today that Roku OS 10 has started rolling out to devices, including streaming devices, audio products, and Roku TVs. With the OS update, Roku users will find new ways to customize their viewing experience, connect to gaming consoles more easily, and overall improved performance.

“The Roku OS adds new choices, more value and continues to make streaming easier and easier with each free update,” said Ilya Asnis, senior vice president of Roku OS at Roku. “With Roku OS 10, we are enabling people to get to the content they love faster through features like Instant Resume and the Live TV Channel Guide customization options, and taking the guesswork out of the more complex wireless network and gaming features by automating them. We are also adding tremendous value by expanding Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to more devices. We hope the customers enjoy the update and look forward to their feedback.”

With the Roku OS 10 update, you’ll find that setting up your device is easier than ever. The update includes automatic WiFi network detection, allowing devices to find and connect to your WiFi but also checking for alternative connections available in the home. The device will prompt users to connect to the network with the strongest connection. If you’re a gamer, Roku will also automatically detect your game console and configure supported features to optimize the TV’s performance for playing video games. Finally, Roku has added Roku Voice for select on-screen keyboards. Roku Voice can now be used with a variety of on-screen keyboards, giving users more convenience and speed when entering information on their Roku device. Look for the microphone icon on keyboards to see if voice entry is available.

The OS 10 update includes Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support for HD Roku streaming devices. With AirPlay 2, Roku customers can effortlessly stream, control, and share their favorite content directly from their iPhone, iPad or Mac to compatible Roku devices, bringing the experience to the big screen. While you’re watching, try out the new instant resume feature. When you launch a channel again, you’ll be taken to the spot where you left off with a much faster, smoother experience. The feature is supported on 15+ streaming apps including AT&T TV, fuboTV, The Roku Channel, and more channels to come. The update also allows you to customize the live TV channel guide. Within the guide, you can now hide specific channels and mark others as favorites for a more convenient list to fit your preferences.

Roku is rounding out its update with some audio and image upgrades. First up is HDR10+ support to enhance display settings if HDR10+ compatibility is detected on the TV during setup. Those with a Roku Smart Soundbar or Roku Streambar will notice a new rich and immersive sound experience with the new “Virtual Surround” setting. Use the * button on the Roku remote to open the Sound settings menu to use the new setting that creates a sound experience throughout the room. Finally, improvements to Roku’s voice search allow users to search without closing out of the content you’re watching. Search results will show up in an overlay with results from the channel you’re currently watching, along with other channels on the platform.
